Chart round-up: bite-size Bank Holiday edition
Mike_Diver by Mike Diver March 24th, 2008

Mercy, mercy, me: Duffy, Welsh wailer of many a week at number one, has slipped to two in order to accommodate Estelle’s Kanye West-featuring newbie, ‘American Boy’. It ain’t shit, but it ain’t no ‘Wait A Minute’. We smell a re-release in the not too distant future.

Next highest new entry in this week’s singles chart – sorry, we should have clarified that the British R&B singer’s single is brand new at one – is Madonna’s questionable collaboration with Justin Timberlake, ‘4 Minutes’. Nice horns mind. Guillemots’ ‘Get Over It’ (what, all the critical negativity guys? LOL, et cetera) debuts at 20. Bravo, four-piece.

The Enemy see their ‘This Song Is About You’ enter just outside the 40, at 41; no doubt that walking gob of theirs will have something to say on that later this week. If not, we’ll make something up; based on past form, next to anything will be believable. Blah blah blah… Supergrass’ ‘Bad Blood’ makes 73. Bad form.

Filling in the higher-end gaps: Leona Lewis is at three, One Republic (OneRepublic, OneWord?) at four, and Nickel-Ican’tbelievethey’venotfuckedoff-Back (to whatever hole they crawled out of) remain at five with the no-words-can-explain awful ‘Rockstar’. We at DiS aren’t usually ones to condone violence, but should anyone see Chad this week: kick him hard in the family jewels for us.

Albums… Duffy’s Rockferry stays top, with Muse new at two with the CD version of their Haarp audio/visual release (it’s that Wembley show, yeah). Congratulations, also, to: Elbow at five with The Seldom Seen Kid (review), We Are Scientists at 11 with Brain Thrust Mastery (interview), Taio Cruz at 17 with Departure, and Neon Neon at 67 with Stainless Style (review). More people need to buy that last one; 67 ain’t how Boom Bip be rollin’.

There are other new entries from The Eagles, Mike Oldfield and Van Morrison. Father’s Day isn’t until June. Dubya, tee and, indeed, eff.

Out this week: some album by some band called Foals (review). Virtual high-fives to all the lovers. Twitch-rock yr way to HMV and get on that shit. Also: albums by Supergrass, Panic at the Disco, The Sword and Pennywise.

Anyone buy the Yothmovies album last week? If so: real-life high-fives at the next possible opportunity. Like tonight, in Sheffield… if you’re there, come to THIS.

Bank holiday blessings, kiddiewinkles.
