DiScover Club double: this weekend and next in London, plus future dates
Mike_Diver by Mike Diver March 27th, 2008
and Gary Wolstenholme

Roll up, rock down: the DiScover Club is back in London these next two weekends, and we’ve two cracking bills for y’all, for free.

As always, the DiScover Club is held at London’s Notting Hill Arts Club from 4pm-8pm, in conjunction with Rough Trade Shops/RoTa. The Arts Club can be found at 21 Notting Hill Gate, London W11 3JQ. Entry is free, but the events are open to over-18s only. If in doubt, bring ID.

Playing live in the coming weeks and months…

March 29
BEESTUNG LIPS (DiScover / MySpace)
WHO OWNS DEATH TV (DiScover / MySpace)
LAKES (MySpace)
Plus DJs: DiS’s Mike and Holy Roar’s Ellen

Beestung Lips are quite probably the most blistering new noise we’ve heard burst out of Birmingham in the past couple of years, the terrifyingly acerbic yin to Johnny Foreigner’s indie-rocking yang; we’ve already highlighted their potential in our Early Doors picks for 2008, and their debut EP Songs To And From An Iron Gut (review) is a must-have for fans of Hot Snakes, The Jesus Lizard and Gallows… Who Owns Death TV count two former members of Million Dead amongst their ranks, and create melodic hardcore with pop sensibilities in the vein of a less-boisterous, but no less potent, Mclusky; appropriately, they have supported (and soon will again) Future of the Left in the recent past, and have also played with Qui and Gay For Johnny Depp… Lakes are one of Kent’s best-kept rock secrets, although praise from the likes of Gallows (interview) is sure to find them further friends in not too long; a split EP with Brighton’s Zettasaur last year (review) marks them out as experimental hardcore types with plenty of promise, and they’re straight off after their DiScover Club slot (4.30pm!) to support The Young Knives… so get in early!
