And yes, it's James Blunt!
Seriously, a hearty well done to the former soldier man who's effortlessly carved out an unlikely career as a singer, no mean feat for a man whose skin-crawlingly faux-fraught vocals have reduced men of steel and iron to blubbering wrecks, distraught at just how this could have ever happened.
"You're beautiful, it's true..."
Poetry, plain and simple.
Putting opinion to one side temporarily, Blunt is the first British act to top the Billboard Hot 100 Chart (the singles chart) since Elton John did in 1997 with the re-release of 'Candle In The Wind'. You remember: some gal or other died and some folks got upset, la Di da.
The album from which Blunt's continent-conquering single 'You're Beautiful' is taken, Back To Bedlam, has now shifted over six million copies and is at number five in the US album charts, well ahead of the Arctic Monkeys' album which this week charted at number 24.
Still, well done the AMs - America's a bitch at the best of times. And, really, well done Blunt - sell a few more and perhaps you can fuck the fuck off to LA or wherever for good.
What? Opinionated news coverage is bad?
