Video Thrills the Radio Stars: Music DVD Sales Double
Mike_Diver by Mike Diver April 27th, 2004
High-profile DVD video releases from the likes of Coldplay, Robbie Williams and U2 have pushed sales of the format up by 95% over the last year.

Of the 6.4 million music DVDs sold, 60% have been live performance releases. The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry commented: "The music industry has both fuelled and responded to consumer demand for DVD music video by providing both quality and quantity. Strong growth is expected again in 2004 as consumers extend DVD buying beyond just their favourite artists and choice is widened."

The DVD boom is a ray of sunshine on an industry sweating over the impact of illegal music downloads. CD sales may have dropped worldwide, but one thing seems certain: we just can't get enough of seeing Chris Martin wave his head about like he's a sandwich, a Thermos and a blanket short of a picnic. Here's to the live DVD of Britney's current tour. Cheers!
