The Pistolas

Take It With A Kiss

Label: Best Before Release Date: 25/06/2007

25139
Hugo_A_GoGo by Dave Kerr July 4th, 2007

“The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire…”

Not again, surely?

While rife references to olden day hip-hop pioneers like Rockmaster Scott & The Dynamic Three and the once harshly dubbed “head-like-a-rocket, stick-your-finger-in-a-socket, punk-muthafucka called Kid” ('n' rhyming partner Play) might threaten to confuse young boppers more often than convince them, Norwich’s Pistolas make no bones about the old-school ethics they need us to believe in if their very own hometown £1 Parties are going to keep their numbers up. And, while their fun lovin’ ‘tude is probably the definitive feature that separates the bass-driven, nasal and synthesized style of ‘Take It With A Kiss’ and ‘Dinosaurs’ from the more foreboding intensity of White Rose Movement, this is music that - by the Pistolas’ own admission - was solely meant to matter on the dancefloor to begin with.

Similar to the way in which any £1 party worth its salt achieves its ends by revealing shit-faced punters in various states of temporary euphoria when the lights go up, this is a carefree indie disco affair that, at the very least, achieves its kick-stepping objective in the short term. But any fire damage inflicted on this particular roof is purely cosmetic.
