“Hot computer, I want to turn you on” – Gerling, ‘Hot Computer’

FINALLY. Out in the UK at last and it’s been worth the wait.

First impressions of the Aussy trio’s new LP is that “I can’t believe it’s the same band who did ‘Death To The Apple Gerls’!” The likes of ‘Dust Me Selecta’ and ‘Phazer Kids In The Windy City’ start things weirdly… well, not WEIRD as such but just DIFFERENT. We’re talking CLUB music here. Sorry, that should be “muzak”. This is better than the last album, however. It has more focus, it’s still trying to please everyone but sounds more accomplished, more smooth-flowing.

The list of celebs involved just adds to the mix: Kylie, Kool Keith (his track is particularly fab, I must add), ‘Totally Addicted To Bass’ types Puretone, Cornelius and Solex. Wow!

The unadulterated pop joy of ‘The Deer In You’ sticks out a little in this mash of twisted dance beats and rap breaks, but that’s Gerling for you – eclectic yet accessible, and still remaining one of the world’s best-kept secrets.

Your perfect summer chill-out album. Make them famous!
