Labrat

Ruining It For Everyone

Label: Visible Noise

2180
_adam_ by Adam Anonymous August 17th, 2002

Right then. Anyone reckon that Raging Speedhorn are, like, for pussies? Or of the opinion that anything not shouted, screamed and generally ripped out at over 4000 decibels is kinda pointless? Ah good, this is for you.

Labrat (see what they’ve done with that clever ol’ squashing two words into one?) have a name that doesn’t for one second give you any false impressions of the evil bludgeoning aural haymakers they knock out with the same ease Mr Kipling applies to cakes.

Indeed, the only factor that matches Labrat’s armoured assault is their vicious sense of humour – you won’t find many extreme metal bands prepared to risk the standard po-faced pained demeanour with song titles like ‘Clint Eastwood Is Very Hard, Innit’. If that doesn’t tickle yer dangly bits, they have beauteous tunes called things like ‘Diary Of A Piss Drinker’ and ‘Two Pigs Fucking’ – even their website is found at www.labratcunts.com!

They’re a deadly serious proposition when it comes to the most downright malevolent head-fuck onslaughts recorded since blast-beats were invented, however. ‘Rest Among The Silt’, ‘Father Son And Holy Goat’ and ‘Phuelled By Farmiceuticals’ all make eardrums not so much burst as spontaneously combust; ‘Hilary’s Song’ is eerie and vaguely thought provoking with it’s interwoven “Hilary and I killed the old lady...just...for...fun” teenage girl dialogue.

And as your brain slowly mutates into finely pummelled mush, Labrat will be laughing. This is not so much an album as a statement – death to false metal.
