Loud bands are nothing new. Bands that are the aural equivalent of a hefty wrench to the back of the head followed by a bloody skull-fuck most certainly are. Welcome Hey Colossus – a Saaaf London band that even the Devil himself would have a hard time out-devilling, such is the underlying felling of eeevil that runs throughout these five tracks. Opener ‘Snakes’ is the polar opposite to closer ‘A Witch Is Born’ in terms of length – the latter clocking in at some 18 minutes – but both contain all the essentials, providing you like your essentials to be almost-unbearable white noise, hypnotic space-drones and growling, nay, snarling and totally incomprehensible vocals. Like Isis’ majestic ‘Oceanic’, it takes a little time for the rough edges of_ ‘…Hates You’ _to prove themselves to be the main attraction, but half the fun comes from slogging through what feels like Hell’s own orchestra before that becomes apparent. This’ll have your mum in floods of tears. Good; Hey Colossus hates your mum.
