The Futureheads

Music and Song

Label:

ransell by Rachelle Ansell September 25th, 2001

Much in the same way that back issues of the Beano can be used to wallpaper the bathroom Sunderland’s The Futureheads decided to lovingly wrap my copy of this demo in dictionary pages which thoughtfully gave me something to read whilst listening to their CD.

Then again, perhaps reading the wrapping-paper was a bad idea. The cd begins with what seems to be a distorted telephone ring that makes your heart jump out of your ribcage and run away in fright. Park Inn continues on with Germanic screeching and Sunderland-accented verses and like the one and a bit minute blip that it is it seems to attain warp drive and disappear. Its fellow songs on the demo are hardly more sedate, Carnival Kids’ music is very innocent in a way, the sort of stuff that could be used as a soundtrack to ids playing on roundabouts, the lyrics are far sinister with talk of murder and violence. Le Garage is another one minute blip with a guitars that would send duracell bunnies on speed wild.

All brilliant if you can keep up.
