F*cks

Label: Angular Records Release Date: 15/11/2004

afuture1 by Andrew Future November 15th, 2004

Hailing from London via art school, Fucks are the White Stripes on casio keyboards, really cheap guitars with even more pained, Queen-like karaoke wailing. And if that wasn't enough, they've even nabbed The Strokes' drum machine.

Name-checking cups of tea, biscuits and the Daily Mail, opener, 'Freedom Is A Good Thing' is thankfully only as political as Sleeper and they are just as funny. Whippet beats, buzz fuzz bass and the best comedy falsetto since Damon Albarn tried singing 'Waterloo Sunset' with Ray Davis on the telly lead into the wrecked conga of 'I Love New York'. This minimalist bontempi magic extends to all six tracks, but the true gem must surely be the Fucksed up version of 'Mad World'. It's even better than the line: "I wanna be like Michael Jackson/I gotta small cock I can't get no action", from 'I Don't Like It'.

EP One is the record Kid A would have been if Thom Yorke smoked like 50 Cent and shagged girls with dodgy piercings. But don't let that put you off, because it's an unwitting masterpiece. Get there before the style press maul 'em.
