In Depth by Colin Roberts

Pink Nasty is 24-year-old Wichita-born Sara Beck's project. Sara is now based in Austin, Texas (home of the renowned South by Southwest music shindig, as well as many bands) and she plays a classy line in acoustic pop, via indie-rock and with the attitude of a modern-day Pavement.»

My Morning Jacket at London Astoria, Fri 22 Sep

We'll cut straight to the chase - you should come to as many of these as you humanly can. They're going to be what the French would call 'really good, bruv'.»

Jonquil - Sunny Casinos

Review by Colin Roberts

Sunny Casinos: a record title so summery, images of open fields collide instantly with the night-time buzz of the city. However, one minute into Jonquil's glorious debut and any images of serenity and perfection are somewhat shattered...»

Norwich's ever-growing hotbed of off-kilter pop has also provided The Aprons and we reckon if you're into Bearsuit or Das Wanderlust, you'll enjoy their unpredictable spazzy glee.»

News by Colin Roberts

As if to confirm our commitment to new music that little bit further, we're announcing the inaugural (and hopefully start of many) DiScover: New Music Tour, featuring our favourite Oxford-based undefinables, Youthmovies and Brighton's grunged-up sex-rock duo, Blood Red Shoes.»

Welcome to DiScover!

In Depth by Colin Roberts

Drowned in Sound has always been about new music. Having championed the likes of Bloc Party from day one and maintaining a pedigree for finding great new music into our sixth year, we thought it time to make a bigger deal out of our new music coverage.»

Los Campesinos! at London Monto Water Rats, Mon 11 Sep

Review by Colin Roberts

If there's one thing that's going to stifle talent and kill music in this country it's industry scrums before a band has even had time to mature in any way. The blame could lie at the feet of MySpace, message boards or just the immediacy of the internet as a whole, but whatever has led the entire music industry (and its friends) to the Water Rats tonight, it needs taming...»

Mystery Jets - Diamonds in the Dark

Review by Colin Roberts

'Diamonds in the Dark' goes off in my face like a firework display, resonating joyfully of summer, with a subtly echoing melancholia behind the whole display...»

Jerseylive 2006 at Jersey Royal Showground, Sat 02 Sep

Review by Colin Roberts

As faces leave, satisfied and happy, the context of the event returns. Statistically just shy of 10% of Jersey's population make up the attendees here and is essentially the biggest youth-orientated event on the island (only?). So to attend an event so well-executed, clean and picturesque makes a snobby Londoner like me think twice about what really constiutes a great festival. Basically, when it feels as good as this, the line-up almost becomes elementary.»

JerseyLive is this weekend!

News by Colin Roberts

DiS will be at the event, catching the action and documenting it in the form of a delicious podcast and article. That way, it will be like being there, but without actually leaving your house. Admittedly it will hardly be 'live' - three days later in fact - but y'know, you can just build a moat around your house, knock the VAT off your shopping and pretend you're in Jersey...»

DiS 6th Birthday: Big Barfly Bash

News by Colin Roberts

Aaaaah yes. DiS becomes six and the parties go crazy like a wild fish of laughter. What? Yeah. Anyway, the real party-pizzarty goes RIGHT down at the Camden Barfly on the 10th October. It's going to be a big one (trust) and to be honest, you should really take the Wednesday off work and all come round my house for debauched stupidity. Did I really jut say that? I'll be regretting that come October.»

Theft at Reading: Can you help?

News by Colin Roberts

The incident occurred on the Saturday night of the festival and the items are listed below. DiS is offering a healthy reward for the safe return and/or information pertaining to its whereabouts. If you know anything, or indeed took it yourself, please e-mail editor [at] drownedinsound [dot] com and we'll be in touch.»

So, you're not at Reading/Leeds...

News by Colin Roberts

Well, well, well. As you're reading this, it's more than likely that you've not made the trek to the Rivermead Centre or indeed Bramham Park for the weekend and, as such, you're totally bummed, mildly bored or actually quite glad not to be attending...»

News by Colin Roberts

A rotating headliner featuring the multi-national blissful melodic rock of Fields alongside London's endlessly danceable electo-tinged indie stalwarts GoodBooks will be hitting a town near you at some point in October and we'll be covering it every step of the way. Tour diaries, interviews and podcasts will be bringing the tour to your screens, ears and face.»
