Despite their leapfrogging to a new label and a roping in of their more messy elements - a fine tuning if you will - The Delgados have essentially remained the same over the last decade.
The key notions of the band are still there; hate, heart and the human condition. This single, perhaps one of the most shining examples of pop nous they have produced, is a giant slab of misanthropy disguised as a rollicking pastiche of The Beatles' 'All You Need Is Love'. Outwardly, its bright orchestral and shiny, whilst at the same time hiding a heart which is dark, sombre and murky. In order to confuse things more, the single also contains a cover of ELO's irrepressibly jaunty 'Mr Blue Sky' fashioned in an inimitably Delgados style. Queasy times round the Delgados' way: Same as ever then.
