Since the invention of the humble puff pastry mince pie, one problem has troubled humankind on Christmas morning: how shall I soundtrack my 'special' day? For others, it is 'how do I drown out the family rows' and for some it's simply a question of 'what songs will distract or at least empathize with my solitude?'
With these and so many other puzzling things in mind, DiS (with plenty of help from our Music Forum - thank you all) set about creating the ultimate Christmas playlist to take the bother out of deciding what to listen to. We've picked covers by some of our favourites like Sufjan Stevens, The Polyphonic Spree and Katy Perry, plucked a few festive originals by Frightened Rabbit, The Raveonettes and Emmy the Great, and then threw several dollops of Christmas classics, a sloshing of novelties and marinated it all in plenty of Snoop Dogg.
However, to be really honest, this entire five hour, 88-song playlist (the number 88 looks like two snowmen, innit) came from a discussion about whether anyone in recent times has topped Jimmy Eat World's cover of 'Last Christmas' or written an original as the tittersome bell-end, festive guitar solo frolicking fun that is 'Christmas Time' by The Darkness. You have plenty of choices here which maybe better it and we're bound to have missed some stuff off (especially as not everything we wanted was available on Spotify) but feel free to make a superior playlist and stick it in the comments below...
IT'S DISSSSMASSS!!! - a very DiS Christmas playlist
