Colin Murray is the superbly loud and direct
replacement of Steve Lamacq's Evening Session
|
Steve Lamacq and his much lauded Evening Session were replaced by a fresh faced goon by the name of Colin Murray |
His style is that of completed unedited
honesty, which can only be good for the listener. He sees his
studio as home for two hours, rather than some kind of palace and
we get all the details: gobbing over decks, fart jokes and the
like. In short he's a bit of a lad.
|
While Lamacq was always one to stick to special features and continually support unsigned bands who had given him a demo record to listen to, Murray has no themes to his show - it's just music: not for anoraks apparently. |
Steve Lamacq revered John Peel like a God
whenever he bigged up his show. Murray just calls him ... well ...
'Peel'.
This is a great symbol of a lack of nostalgia
|
Colin Murray just doesn't seem to understand the importance of his time slot to either the music he plays nor to the people listening. It's one big joke to him and there is little redemption for him. |
Murray's playlist has so much more momentum: Loud/quiet was ok with good ol' Lamo, but it just feels far more satisfying listening to a show at 8 which lets you jump around the bedroom for two hours solid. | What I loved about Lamacq's shows was that it was on at a time where I was doing homework and thus a bit of control over the playlist was much appreciated. Murray plays bland radio music for much of his time which is different, how? |
Murray loves things that are funny, and acting like a bit of a practical joker. the music industry and its media need to laugh at itself and those people around it, far more | Lamacq had no need to compensate for quality in his show with super-lame jokes but Murray, on the other hand, has based his show around the theme of comedy. What a concept. |
Murray is confident. Lamacq was quite shy. It's easier to listen to a guy talking when he's sure of himself | It was nice to hear someone on the radio occasionally who didn't always feel so cocksure and be so bloody annoying all the time. |
