Radiohead won’t be giving away any more free music any time soon.
The band’s decision to let fans/customers name their price for last year’s In Rainbows longplayer was seen by many to be a revolutionary et cetera… you know the story, but it’s not one with another chapter, according to Thom Yorke.
“It was one of those things where we were in the position of everyone asking us what we were going to do,” the frontman told the Hollywood Reporter.
“I don’t think it would have the same significance now anyway, if we chose to give something away again. It was a moment in time… I think it was a one-off response to a particular situation.”
The band have, however, chosen to donate a track to charity, offering ‘All I Need’ up for use in a new music video aimed at raising awareness of human trafficking.
"It's a very powerful video,” guitarist Ed O’Brien said to BBC Radio’s Newsbeat, referring to a promo that uses a split screen to tell the stories of two lads growing up either side of the east/west affluence dichotomy.
"We were approached by MTV [whose EXIT campaign the video is now part of] about two months ago, and asked if they could use ‘All I Need’ for this short film. We found out about the campaign and we were happy for them to use it."
The film will premiere on MTV on Mayday, but you can see it courtesy of the Hollywood Reporter below:
