Dark Night Of The Soul to get official release
JoeDiddly by Luke Slater March 4th, 2010

Brian Burton a.k.a Danger Mouse's super collaboration project Dark Night Of The Soul will get an official release through EMI, the Mouse Himself revealed. The earlier legal dispute between Mouse and EMI led to no physical copies being released, instead Burton releasing a blank CD-R in protest, with a sticker saying it had no music "for legal reasons". Many people illegally downloaded the compilation, anyway.

Burton said that the legal issues were in the past, adding "The problems of last year are last year, so hopefully it will be out soon in June or something like that." Meanwhile EMI seem to be pretty pleased about the whole thing, with their spokesman saying:

"We can confirm that EMI are working with Brian Burton AKA Danger Mouse again, and are delighted to be doing so. Further information on releases will follow shortly."

Pleased as punch.

The tracklisting for the album, which you may or may not have downloaded in the last six months, featured a veritable gaggle of indie superstars, including the now-deceased Vic Chesnutt and is below.

  1. Revenge (featuring The Flaming Lips)
  2. Just War (featuring Gruff Rhys)
  3. Jaykub (featuring Jason Lytle)
  4. Little Girl (featuring Julian Casablancas)
  5. Angel's Harp (featuring Black Francis)
  6. Pain (featuring Iggy Pop)
  7. Star Eyes (I Can't Catch It) (featuring David Lynch)
  8. Everytime I'm with You (featuring Jason Lytle)
  9. Insane Lullaby (featuring James Mercer)
  10. Daddy's Gone (featuring Mark Linkous and Nina Persson) 11.The Man Who Played God" (featuring Suzanne Vega)
  11. Grim Augury (featuring Vic Chesnutt)
  12. Dark Night of the Soul (featuring David Lynch)

Buy it at your own risk.

Danger Mouse is, of course, currently working with The Shins lead man James Mercer in their collaboration under the name of Broken Bells. They released their debut, self-titled record this week. We gave it 9/10. Also stay tuned for our video interview with them, conducted by the delightful Wendy Roby.
