10 Today - Happy Birthday to DiS
sean by Sean Adams October 1st, 2010

Hello

Today marks 10 years since our website went "live" and we wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has written, read and supported http://drownedinsound.com over the past 10 years.

We would be nothing without the passion, energy and knowledge of our staff, so, if you have a glass in your hand this weekend, please raise it to them and their words. Thank you too to all the labels for supporting great music which may otherwise never have been released, let alone encouraged to go that bit further. And lastly, I guess we should thank the musicians and say thank you for the music.

DiS never had some grand business plan or calculated vision, it was simply a giddy mixture of enthusiasm and frustration. I don't remember ever thinking about the site sustaining itself for more than a year or two, so to reach 10 years with half a million readers hitting the site each month, and 1000s of you actively participating in conversations about music and life-in-general on the forums, is both surprising and humbling but it keeps us going, that's for sure.

If you're joining us to celebrate in London tonight, you'll see a set from DiS boarders and makers of one of our albums of last year worriedaboutsatan, followed by a DJ set from one of our favourite DiScoveries of the past 10 years: Rolo Tomassi. Plus DiS' Rory Gibb who edited our recent dubstep week will be blasting some DiS favourites and some glimpses of the not-so-distant-future for the final hour.

We also have events coming up in London (Thurs @ Barfly - Blood Red Shoes after-party), Sheffield (Rollerpolooza 2 w/ No Age, Pulled Apart by Horses, Male Bonding and more...) and Manchester (In the City w/ No Age, Health, Sky Larkin and more...), so we hope you can make it to one of those. If not, sit back and enjoy a month of content starting today featuring top 10 lists, take-overs from some of our favourite bands, glances at shifts in the business of music like changes to record sleeve artwork plus a variety of playlists guiding you back in to the depths of our archives.

From record releases to rows with Brian May, we have had a fantastic adventure so far and with a bit of luck we'll be throwing a party to rival Matador's 21st, which takes place this weekend, when we're all grown up like them.

Love to all,

Sean Adams
