There are a lot of reasons why the topic of "Women in Music" shouldn't be an issue any more. There're plenty of reasons why in 2015 there shouldn't need to be a day celebrating women.
However... then there are some horrific stats. Everything is not as equal as it could and should be. The recent uproar about the lack of non-men on certain festival line-ups, the stats about only 14% of PRS registered songwriters being female, the hideous abusive trolling on social media, and so on and so forth.
To put the topic of "Women in Music" into context, whilst celebrating the likes of St Vincent, Lizzo, Joanna Greusome, Bjork and Kathleen Hanna; we've compiled some choice cuts from our archive and the best of the web. So grab your phone/tablet, pop the kettle on and load it up: http://dis.pause.fm/womeninmusic.
Expect more themed DiS Digests plundering our archive and sharing our favourite bits of the web in the future.
p.s. Some music for you.
Something I made earlier. Spotiy says it's 10 hours long?! http://t.co/rWpjeGKYDi
