Ask anyone who matters in the world of rock & roll, and they'll tell you how important (and prolific) Danny Frye is. In his time, he's performed with the Ramones and members of the Stooges, as well as playing lead guitar for Sylvain Sylvain of the New York Dolls.
It's fitting, then, that his final performance will be on May 20 at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame & Museum, with Glen Matlock and Anti-Flag's Justin Sane. Having recently impressed long-term followers and gained many new fans performing under the name of Danny Frye and the Devil-Dolls (a lineup featuring, amongst others, ex-Yo-Yo's guitarist Tom Spencer), Frye recently announced his impending retirement from the world of rock & roll: "I've been doing it everyday for over ten years now and the business side of music has torn me up too many times to count".
It's not over yet, though, as before his departure Danny plans to release a 32-song double album entitled A Farewell to Charm, and if his own self-review is anything to go by, it should be pretty bloody good. "It's fucking great... The best stuff I've ever done", he enthuses, explaining that working without the often negative influence of record labels or producers has given him more artistic freedom. Further details, such as a release date or record label, are unconfirmed, but whenever the album does see the light of day, it seems likely that it'll go alongside Danny's earlier offering, Hellbent, as a rock & roll classic.
