Named after a ground breaking album by free jazz pioneer Ornette Coleman and an album by Galaxie 500, MTV are letting the outsiders in. The musicians, fanzine makers and tiny label bosses who do not consider music "a career" and who are barely make a living out of music, are going on Mtv.
The show see's four Swedes on an a mission, which they say was to "only cover people who had absolutely no connection to any of the so called 'major labels'. And, of course, whose music means a lot to us." And off they went. "To Scotland to meet The Fence Collective, Stephen Pastels Geograhic Label and to catch The Future Pilot AKA performing live in a café. To Helsinki in Finland to probe into the wonderful world of the people formerly known as Op:l Bastards. To Brighton to recieve a burning lecture from Careless Talk Costs Lives and to portrait Fat Cat Records..."
Over the next few weeks, using Mtv's money they give exposure to the influential likes of Geoff Travis from Rough Trade West London, Maher Shalal Hash Baz live from their pottery barn in the north of Japan, and to bands from Fife, Glasgow, San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Helsinki, Brighton and Oslo...
The first show airs this Tuesday, March 2nd, on Mtv2 at 11:30pm.
