Good god, this is loud... well for a Sunday evening anyway (when I’m writing this). Kicking off with a bowel-shaking unearthly squall, opening track ‘The Gallery’ then settles into a somewhat pedestrian tread of the fare that Hundred Reasons and Hell Is For Heroes ply.
As musicians, Imogen are comsumate, but on the evidence of this EP, they don’t have the command of a catchy hook which would launch them from the merely able to the actually memorable. The lyrics are not terribly easy to decipher in places, as is the emo-style, but I can only imagine that tales of woe are part of Imogen’s template from singer Neil’s tortured tone.
Perhaps it would be in contradiction to some fundamentalist principle of the band, but to quote Roxette (something which I’m generaly averse to doing), please ‘don’t bore us... get to the chorus’. On their eponymous EP closer, they almost just do that.
