Madrugada

Majesty

Label: Music for Nations Release Date: 09/02/2004

tjarvis by Toby Jarvis February 9th, 2004

They've been big fish in the Scandinavian pond since the mid-Nineties but Madrugada are only now having a go at the fickle UK rock world. So for our purposes 'Majesty' is a debut single and 'Grit', out on March 1st, is a debut album. And they both exceed expectations by a country mile. Although the bulk of 'Grit' is a huge rock beast that veers between Iggy Pop and Six By Seven, 'Majesty' is a beautiful, carefully arranged semi-ballad, showcasing singer Sivert Hoyem's extraordinary Smog or Mark Lanegan tones. Excellent stuff, so watch this space.
