Healthy Extremeties

‘Team Extreme’, the World Champions and largest BMX and skateboarding team, are linking up with the best in Urban Sports for the Healthy Lifestyle Programme’s ‘Urban Gathering’ Event at Crosby Marina, Liverpool on April 26th.

Supported by the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund (NRF), South Sefton Primary Care Trust’s (PCT) Healthy Lifestyle Programme is working in partnership with the Children’s Fund to host one of the biggest Urban Sports Festivals ever to take place on Merseyside. Taking place at Crosby Marina from 12.00 - 4.00pm, Urban Gathering will showcase the latest and most dynamic talent in Urban Sports.

The event will be kicked off by World Champion Skateboarder Neil Danns and Team Extreme who will perform breathtaking aerial Skateboard and BMX demonstrations on 20ft ramps, followed by Extreme Mountain Biking with British Champion Ged Avery. The event will provide the public with the chance to see and sample a huge number of extreme sports, from bungee running, Quad-Biking, Wheelchair Basketball and Bucking Bronco to Kickboxing, Velcro Olympics, Climbing Walls, street hockey, microlights and water sports.

An eclectic musical backdrop of live performances will accompany these displays, including new hip-hop artist ‘Fallacy’ and the Juice FM DJs. There will also be DJ workshops, Juice FM live radio link-ups and the chance to see The Rock-Steady Breakdancing Crew, fresh from performing in New York, who will be recruiting people for their classes after stunning them with their moves.

The Healthy Lifestyle Programme aims to use this event to encourage and motivate young people to take part in physical activity using ‘extreme’ sports – in a safe environment. These are not only in-keeping with youth culture, but are also available for young people in the local area to access on a regular basis. The programme decided on this theme given its close links with current trends in the media, music and fashion.
