The naughty forty - chart update
disnews by DiS News April 11th, 2005
Hello, charts ahead of you...

It's that Christie/Kay thing at no.1 still and Elvis goes to no.2 with 'Crying In The Chapel', which isn't very exciting, nor is the fact that Garbage are the next highest entry at no.7 with the too-easy-to-crack-a-funny 'Why Do You Love Me'. Also new in the ten is Melanie C with her first 'indie' release 'Next Best Superstar' - surely some mistake people? Is it not 2005?. Hmmm.

Feeder are 'Feeling A Moment' at no.13 this week, but we're really not, while the rest of the top 20 or so is relatively untroubled by interesting - or indeed any - new entries. There's a triple whammy a tad further down though, as Bees novelty it up with 'Chicken Payback' at 28, Junkie Rock Twats, The Others do 29 with 'William', a song about a boy and his imaginary friend (well, that's what we got from watching the video on Pop World) and one below that are The Departure who profess to have a 'Lump In My Throat'. Which is a laughable notion from the soulless major label indie kids. Oooo. Harsh.

Only Elton John troubles the rest of the top forty with a new entry at 32. In fact, bar new US punk-funk-ers VHS or Beta in at 63 with 'The Melting Moon', there's no other new entries in the top 75. A quiet week then.

In the full length-ers, we see Natalie Imbruglia taking top spot with her third LP 'Counting Down The Days', but we're more impressed by British Sea Power placing themselves in the not-at-all-unlucky 13th spot. Wahoo! Morrissey's back in the top 20 with his 'Live At Earl's Court' extravaganza and it's a Manchester throwback party when you add in the Happy Monday's Greatest Hits collection at 31. Tom Vek appears at 73. Hopefully, it's a grower...

Nothing going on in the Download charts with the likes of the Stereophonics, Phantom Planet and Kaiser Chiefs dominating...
