DiS in digest: our pick of the week's news
Mike_Diver by Mike Diver February 23rd, 2007

DiS has been busy this week. Busy beavering away at organising exciting things to do with festivals and tours and records and stuff, stuff that you might just be hearing about very soon. Yes, very soon. So long as the rug’s not pulled out from under our virtual arses.

‘Til next week, though, merry readers and miserable visitors alike, we bid you a fond adieu. In doing so we leave you this: the weekly DiS in digest run through of our favourite news stories of the week. And hasn’t this week been magic – she’s in, she’s out, she’s bald, she’s Britney; Andrew W.K. fans want the tight-panted stain on the otherwise clean shirt of r ‘n’ r to play ATP; and one half of sexy Brighton duo Blood Red Shoes got all angry at a band with a silly, silly name. Tsk and, indeed, tsk.

But we’re not that interested in those things. These, ‘ere, are our picks:

Hawk at that! Band on DiS tour!
Great folksy country sorts A Hawk And A Hacksaw are touring in May, and DiS is proud to be involved. Should be good times – look out for further information in the coming weeks…

If you’re El-P and you know it, clap your hands!
Hip-hop’s brightest spark – well, one of the brightest – has announced the tracklisting for his excellent new LP. We’ve not had the single, ‘Flyentology’, off the office stereo for hours now. It’s driving next door crazy…

Band’s arses for sale!
The Duloks are three girls from London. They’re a pop band. They’ve got ad space for sale. ON THEIR BUMS. We shouldn’t look ‘cause they’re only young. But what the heck…

Travis are back!

DiS in Arcade Fire misquotation shocker!
Sorry, sorry, sorry… We were in a hurry, we didn’t have time to check it, we went out, we came back, all hell had broken loose… Sorry, really…
Read and comment…

Slash’s story: born in Stoke, found hat, rocked some!
Former GN’R dude plans to write his autobiography. It’ll almost certainly be out before Chinese Democracy…
Read and comment…

Don’t Look Back announced! Sonic Youth sell out!
They did: there are now two opportunities to see the wrinkly rockers play their Daydream Nation album from A to Z…
Read and comment…

All Saints: Pure Shores? Washed up, more like!
I’m allowing myself a LOL for that. LOL. There, I did it. I am so totally all over internet acronyms right now, like a pre-teen with unlimited broadband… Speaking of bands, this one’s gonna get dropped, probably…

Band you’ve never heard of does a stupid thing!
We’d never heard of the Buck Brothers, but they’re trying to play 30 gigs in a day so fair play to them. Shame we went to the effort of checking them out on MySpace. Turns out they’re shit…

Thanks, all, for being with us this week. Next week we can offer you exiting DiScover articles on new bands like Forget Cassettes and The Smears, as well as interviews with the fantastic Grinderman, The Little Ones and The Maccabees. Oh, and more news and the like. Not The Like. They’re somewhere that’s not here, milking daddy’s money. The suckling piglets…
