Sir Paul McCartney reportedly turned down the Brit Awards' Outstanding Contribution to Music gong for fear of appearing past it.
The famous veggie, 63, reckons that accepting the award would imply that his career was all but over, when he's feeling as creative as ever. A spokesman for the event said:
_ "We were absolutely stunned. Sir Paul felt that if he accepted the gong, people would assume it was the end of his career."_
The award will now go to Paul Weller, not 63, presumably for his Shockwaves range that made indie-kids' hair stand to attention for all those NME gigs last year.
