Maybe the kids aren't alright? Dads buying more music than their sons

Tell you that what you're playing is just a load of noise they might, but it seems that, commercially at least, your parents know what they're talking about.

A new British Phonographic Industry survey has revealed that people comfortably into their middle age are buying up to twice as many CDs as teenagers. Okay, so kids are downloading, but still: the information means that before long HMV will be the sole domain of the bluerinse brigade.

FEAR.

Apparently industry bigwigs have gone as far as to create a name for this new trend: 'mum rock'. Oh dear oh my oh me...

Statistics: sales to under-30s have dropped from 43% to 34% in the last five years, so sayeth the BBC, while sales to over-40s have leaped from 33.5% to 45%. LOOK AT THE OLD PEOPLE DANCE!

Seriously though, when was the last time some spotty weekend-only kid at Virgin asked for your age when you were buying a Strokes album? How do people actually get this information? Why are we even running a news story on this nothing event? Stuff this, I'm boiling the kettle and putting on my slippers...
