Portland's finest purveyors of antique indie-popness, The Decemberists, have announced details of their forthcoming Major Label Debut.
The Crane Wife is the title on the tray of their first album for Capitol, and it's due out Stateside in early October; since I don't know if they've a worldwide deal with said major, best not make any assumptions regarding a UK release.
The band are working in their hometown, currently bending a trained ear the way of the 22 songs they've thus far recorded, with the intention of editing the material down to album length. In an e-mail re-printed by Pitchfork, the band say:
"This one's going to be really good... (it's) undoubtedly the best thing we've done to date. And while that might smack of hyperbole, we can guarantee that it, at the very least, will be decidedly above average."
