DiS previously reported on the troubles at 24 year-old 'style bible' The Face, but publishers EMAP have finally stated that they are to sever ties with the influential magazine after a five-year relationship.
It's not all doom and gloom however - other publishers will have the option of picking up the magazine from essentially where it'll leave off. However, the mood at The Face's office is considerably less than sunny, and hopes of finding a realistic buyer are low, despite a rumour that Jason Donovan of all people may lead a consortium bid. Paul Keenan, head-honcho at EMAP Consumer Media, stated: "Publication of The Face has been suspended pending its radical reinvention, sale or closure... our energies will be focused on further fuelling momentum around Arena, Arena Homme Plus and Pop."
The news for Just 17 readers is considerably worse: the 21 year-old magazine will close for good, with the final issue emerging next month.
Keenan stated: "Closing J17 enables Emap Consumer Media to focus all of its efforts and resources on making Bliss the market leading title for teenage girls."
