The Pigeon Detectives

I'm Not Sorry

Label: Dance To The Radio Release Date: 21/05/2007

23934
Fra_Jones by Francis Jones May 16th, 2007

Familiar and slightly dull. On the basis of ‘I‘m Not Sorry‘, The Pigeon Detectives offer little by which we might distinguish them from indie’s grey flock. This is formulaic stuff, X & Y equals mediocrity squared; the guitars are determinedly post-punk, the rhythm section jumps and jitters and the vocalist bleats like a sheep that‘s just been accosted by a randy farmer. There are just so many bands doing this kind of thing, and often doing it better, that the value of ‘I’m Not Sorry’ is diluted by sheer ubiquity.

This is music for the mewling hordes; heartless, repetitive and with its eye firmly on the mainstream chance. Granted, they have at least a certain musical know-how, but lyrically they haven’t left the playground, as emotionally stunted as a pre-pubescent dwarf, ‘I’m Not Sorry’ labours painfully over a love lost, “I’m not sorry, no, I’m not sorry, no, I’m not sorry…”. Methinks the lady doth protest too much. At best they’ll become Leeds' answer to The View. Given the lack of ambition displayed here, The Pigeon Detectives will be delighted with such an outcome.
