Paul Weller And Graham Coxon

This Old Town

Label: Regal Release Date: 30/07/2007

HimTall by Him Tall July 27th, 2007

Coming on like a comfy pair of musical slippers, Graham Coxon and Paul Weller collaboration ‘This Old Town’ will warm your toes without challenging you in the slightest. But that’s okay! Whilst not being renowned for throwing compliments around at other musicians Weller has often expressed a penchant for Coxon’s guitar mangling, whilst Coxon has many times given the Modfather’s mighty old Woking three-piece the proverbial nod.

So it perhaps comes as no surprise that this meeting of the two musicians produces a tune so familiar you’ll want to scour your dusty vinyl to see if this really isn’t a long-lost Jam b-side or a Blur outtake. Anyone the wrong side of 35 with a fondness for a stomping mod anthem in the style of ‘When You’re Young’ or Weller’s recent solo output will feel a slight tingle on hearing this single track. Anyone under 35 may ask what these duffers are up to, and if they could please stop. I’m unapologetically in the former camp. So sue me.
