It’s been a good year for Justice. Anointed as one of a trio of electro-heroes (and arguably better than the other two) for 2007, they’ve managed to swing the hips of Europe and beyond with a fine mix of un-ironic funk, dirty rock, sashaying pop and none-more-now electro.

‘Phantom’ may be the last we hear of the Ed Banger boys for a while, not least because they’ve possibly got to go off and write new pop symphonies that maybe this time aren’t quite so like Daft Punk. But for now, they charm us anyways. ‘Phantom II’ is the side of the duo which makes you convulse joyfully, with synths wrapping themselves around you before sounding like an explosion in a Vangelis factory. It’s very good indeed.

In the remix zone, Soulwax reconstruct the whole thing in order to give it the sort of drop that would make the Grand Canyon feel a little diminished, whilst the less-great-but-still-good Boys Noize reappraisal offers slabs and slabs of diseased bass and squiggle. Fun times.
