Hermano

Only A Suggestion

Label: Tee Pee Records Release Date: 18/07/2002

rcowling by Ralph Cowling August 1st, 2002

**Somewhere, out in the darkest area of the Ohio night, lies the seediest biker bar, complete with Harley touting Hell’s Angels pulling up to its un-welcoming doors. Inside this dark and sweat coated house of debauchery is a necessarily designed cage. In the chain-linked cage lies an aggressive, moody and powerful metal band, and god damn it, they’re well stoned. **

The band is Hermano, their music: stoner rock in the same vein as Kyuss. This is a little predictable considering John Garcia is fronting the band, former singer in Kyuss, Unida and Slo Burn. Slow as you like, Hermano churn the living hell out of life.

First track up - The Bottle - sets the pace with screeching and chunky guitar solos aplenty, recurrent churning riffs and Garcia’s almost grandiose vocals pushing the music onward.

Other highlights on this eight track release include the astral spinning rhythms and riffs in Senor Moreno’s Plan and spurring, thumping guitar hits, to quieter melodies found in Landetta. The pissed up salutation that Hermano have given the world with this release is a great kick in the balls for all Stoner rock fans. Hell, it’s appeal should reach devotees of the Deep Purple era of prog, as well as new coming Queens Of The Stone Age fans.
