The Unisex

Take Me Higher

Label: Star Harbour Release Date: 28/04/2003

3893
tscudder by Tim Scudder April 29th, 2003

It was bound to happen. It seems that finally the tide is turning against those in distressed denim and connoisseurs of the swiped MC5 riff, and we are about to be swallowed up in a giant ground swelling of melody.

At the announcement of another unfeasibly handsome five piece from Sweden releasing a record, fears of The Hives mk2 immediately sent the blood icy and brow sweating, but it was not to be so. Unisex are more in tune with those days of the mid nineties past. Epic guitar pop swooning is the order of the day and '_Take Me Higher_' is a fine example of reach-for-the-skies indie Armageddon. Comparisons with England's elite from a decade past will be muted for fear of a dirty riff uprising, but rest assured that if this is the way it's going, then there may be hope yet for those who still cherish their Geneva, Bluetones and Puressence records. But y'know, want something better.
