Bonobo

Flutter

Label: Ninja Tune Release Date: 13/10/2003

DiSvsMatt by Mat Hocking November 13th, 2003

Brighton’s *Bonobo *is the kind of guy who can really set the mood. With this single he weaves the kind of slick, supple and downright classy beats that will have all you Hoxtonites sliding back into your chair, stirring your dark swirling cocktail and giving lusty gazes to the barman / barbabe. As probably the best choice of single from his ‘Dial M For Monkey’ _album ‘Flutter’ unveils a smooth salsa vibe thanks to some nice fluttering xylophones as they glide playfully over sultry sitar slurs, helping to create a shuffling funk-laced cut that morphs comfortably into a jazzy **Kieran Hebden **remix of _‘Pick Up’.

Hebdon's jazzy Ninja magic lights up an infectious funky base with a twinkling piquance that results in a decadent drum-splicing mix. By the time the reflective down-beat melancholia of _‘Something (Longer) For Windy’ _spins on you’re left in a starry-eyed contemplative trance before it’s abrupt end has you pining for the long player before the evening’s dinner party guests arrive.

What? Dinner party guests? Huh?

Oh. Yes, that's right. It's just Bonobo hypnotising me into thinking I was cool again. Ho hum...
