Mighty Six Ninety

Believable

Label: Kids Release Date: 13/03/2006

12595
domgourlay by Dom Gourlay March 23rd, 2006

Having previously delved into the burgeoning talents of the North of England for their wares, Kids have taken a drastic departure from the norm with Californian quintet The Mighty Six Ninety.

Sounding like an amalgam of Crowded House and Aha, 'Believable' shouldn't really work outside the end credits of The O.C., yet for some strange reason it does. Singer Rich Gardner may have more than a touch of the Finns in his quavering vocal but the bloke sure can hold a note.

Slightly more fascinating is b-side 'Northern Border', a synth-led epic which has a timeless feel that would make it sit comfortably somewhere between 6music, Trent FM and Hollyoaks in the not too distant future.

Enjoy for now, but be warned - the Mighty Six Ninety are clearly on a mission to infiltrate and take over the airwaves very soon.
