Metric

Metric

Label: Release Date: 13/12/2004

jackl by Jack Lowrey December 21st, 2004

Having rubbed shoulders with such established artists as Broken Social Scene, Liars, and the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, you’d expect the sound of Metric to be some kind of bastardised concoction of their mates’ work, and something much more underwhelming than this slice of gorgeous synth-pop.

Indeed, as your ears frantically try to hold onto every stardust sprinkled note of their single ‘Combat Baby’, you are reminded of Elastica’s effortless cool, Garbage’s intriguing Casio beats, and Ikara Colt’s pop hooks. Even better yet is b-side ‘Hustle Rose’ where delicate traipsing guitars glide in and out of focus for five rewarding minutes, anchored by insistent drums and singer Emily Haines’ intriguingly disinterested vocal delivery.

Metric will be a name to remember for 2005. Just make sure you hop on the bandwagon before your local hipster.
