Atticus

3 track demo

Label: Release Date: 01/10/2003

domgourlay by Dom Gourlay October 22nd, 2003

It's always a pleasure to hear something that's not entirely in league with what is considered fashionable, and yet still proves that the taste police are having a healthy effect up and down the bedsits and halls of residence of Great Britain.

Which brings me nicely onto Atticus, who sound like the type of people who'd rather be listening to a wisened old vinyl edition of 'The Joshua Tree' than the ZZ Skynyrd-aping 'Youth And Young Manhood'. In fact I dare say that the aforementioned CD would probably find more use in their humble abode as a doilie for serving cakes on to their eccentric chums.

Because you see, Atticus aren't your typical, everyday "student" band, the likes of which it would be fair to say are probably clutching at the latest straw of uninspiration dished up in their pallid vision of Strokesville. Instead they make a buoyant, sensational noise for such a young bunch, preferring to serve up the anthemic delights of 'Song About A Girl', which is what Longview would sound like if they eased up a little on their God bothering duties, or the breathtaking swirl of 'Reasons', which edges out both Crackout's 'Last In Line' and Headswim's (remember them?) 'Tourniquet' as the most beguiling psalm to all things Cobain and Corgan.

With a demo that possesses more bright spots than the fairy lights of Trafalgar Square in December, Atticus clearly have more than enough potential to ever have to play third on the bill at the Bull And Gate. Get them in the right studio with the right producer and the world could be theirs for the taking.
