Madge and the Chilis take touring honours
disnews by DiS News December 15th, 2004
Formerly young pop star, Madonna, has been revealed as the biggest touring cash cow of the year.

Mrs Ritchie's Re-Invention Tour was the year's biggest grosser, according to a device called the Billboard Boxscore, taking in $125m in September alone and selling out 55 of 56 shows. The elaborate (and f@cking expensive) concerts averaged $2.23m in revenue each night.

Impish Prince came in second place, with his most sucessful tour since the early nineties. In fact, he takes the crown of being the artist who played to more specific paying punters than anyone else (almost 1.5m), The Musicology tour grossed $90.2m.

Shania Twain was third, playing to almost 950,000 fans and grossing $62.5m, with runners up being Simon & Garfunkel ($59m), Metallica ($53.8), Bette Midler ($53.3), Sting ($52.4m), Kenny Chesney ($49.3m), David Bowie ($46m) and Toby Keith ($44.3m).

The year's biggest gig was the three-night park romp by the Red Hot Chili Peppers at London's Hyde Park, the former sock wearers rocked more than 258,000 fans and grossed more than $17m.

Next year, it will be U2.
