Franz Ferdy win two NME Awards
disnews by DiS News February 18th, 2005
Scottish pop fopsters Franz Ferdinand scooped two NME Awards at the annual music magazine awards jamboree.

Ferdy added Best Album & Best Track to their recently collected Brit Awards, and 2004's Mercury Music Prize.

This year's event took place at London's Hammersmith Palais. New Order, who won the Godlike Genius Award, played a four song set. Songs played were new single 'Krafty', 'Love Will Tear Us Apart', ’Blue Monday', and 'Crystal' which Bernard Sumner dedicated to The Killers. No, I don't know why either.

Pete Doherty didn't show - sensible boy - but Carl Barat did to pick up the Libertines' Best British Band award which he then dedicated to his estranged band mate and friend. The award was presented by Graham Coxon who picked up the Best Male Solo Artist.

Finally, former DiS Records signees Kaiser Chiefs bagged the Philip Hall Radar Award. Well done lads.

Here's the award's list in full - yes, even the 'silly' ones:

Best Live Band – Muse
Best New Band – Razorlight

The Phillip Hall Radar Award – Kaiser Chiefs
Best Video – Green Day’s ‘American Idiot’
Best Music DVD – Oasis’ ‘Definitely Maybe’
Best Film – ‘Shaun Of The Dead’
Best TV Show – ‘Little Britain’
Best Radio Show – Zane Lowe

Hero Of The Year – John Peel
Villain Of The Year – George W Bush
Sexiest Man – Brandon Flowers, The Killers
Sexiest Woman – Gwen Stefani
Worst Album – Busted’s ‘A Present For Everyone’

DiScuss: NME readers predictable? Whatever next? Since when have The Others been musical innovators? Since when does shouting a lot on the radio merit an award (and yes we're talking about you Zane Lowe)? Go on - have a damn good bitch, below...
