Owners of The Venue, Caledonian Heritable, are in talks with BL Developments, about transforming it and an area on the nearby road into luxury flats or offices. It's expected to be sold at the end of this year, according to a story in Edinburgh Evening News.
A spokesman for BL Developments told them "We are in discussions with Caledonian Heritable. We have no plans to commence with the conversion of 16 Waterloo Place imminently. There are no plans at this stage to terminate the lease [of The Venue]."
A seperate story in the same newspaper reveals that a multi-million pound mountaineering centre, The Adventure Centre, on the city's outskirtks will become the city's biggest indeed concert venue. As always, 'talks' are taking place for the place to stage events in the next six to nine months.
The capacity of 4,500 makes it 1,000 more than the four-year-old Corn Exchange (which has played host to Oasis, Radiohead and The Darkness) and all-seated venue The Playhouse (I saw Brian May there in 1993, but you probably don't want to hear about that).
The Adventure Centre opened in November and contains the world's biggest indoor climbing arena, fact fans.
